I posted this last fall and it's still one of the best tips I've ever gotten!!!
Watching all those years of HGTV finally paid off for me a few years ago. After sooooooooo many projects on there that I:
- Couldn't afford
- Didn't have the space
- Didn't have the time
- Didn't have the talent
- All of the above
I finally found something that would work for me!! On some episode about organizing something, the professional told the peon that all she needed to organize her storage containers was plastic baskets. WHAT??? I was in shock. The cabinet my storage containers were in was in a constant state of "just been hit by a tornado." It was embarrassing.
Well, I took the professionals advice. I broke out the measuring tape and made myself a little trip to K-Mart. Yes, they still exist. And here's what I came up with. It's the BEST organization idea because it seems to be the only one I can stick to.

I am *so* laughing right now Cheri ("the professional told the peon" :) Hey, I have lived your life ... I can't tell you how many hgtv projects I printed out. Printed out. That's it. I was interested enough and apparently had the time to actually go to the site, look up the project, and print it out ... but that was the end of the road. I, however, do have plastic baskets, woo! Mine were from the dollar store so even SWEETer!

I love this! Because my cabinets are embarassing too. Seriously. I'll run out to the Dollar Store because I'm addicted and we don't have K-Marts here anymore. Though I wish we did, I love the Martha Stewart stuff, but not at Macy's prices. Blessings, Whitney
I have been at my wits end trying to figure out how to organize my container cabinet. Thanks for the idea! I've tried something like this before, but I only had a box/basket for the lids. I never even thought about doing it for the containers as well!

Great idea. I need to get some $ store baskets for the kids art supplies, as that cabinet is in shambles!
I use the little ones in my drawers, and they work great! I also use dishpans to toss stuff in the bigger cabinets (i.e. all the sippy cups/lids are in one).

Plastic baskets are a life saver. I used about 30 of them on the shelves in our garage. I went to Target armed with my measurements and found these baskets that fit the bill. It was amazing how the garage was transformed just by putting stuff into baskets.
